My Philosophy of Learning and Tackling Assignments
I believe that we all come with a variety of aptitudes and talents which make us unique. We also come with areas in which we are less talented or in which we may even have no aptitude at all.

The lack of a talent or aptitude in a certain area is not the end of the story - it is merely an area where "winging it" simply won't accomplish your goal. This is when you have to learn the necessary content and skills to make use of the content, and then practise those skills over and over until you've mastered them.

As an example, not everyone is born with inherent musical or artistic talent, but everyone can learn how to read music, play an instrument, or draw and paint proficiently. The key is content, a plan, a schedule, and practice!

About Me - Stephen Reich
(pronounced Steven Reesh)
As of September, 2020, I will be working toward my Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, at the University of Toronto.

Prior to this, I was a Research Lawyer for 23 years (member of the Law Society of Ontario), as well as a musical director, arranger, conductor and coach for a number of different organizations. I have been a programming director at summer sleepaway camps as well as a counsellor.

What got me interested in Assignment Coaching was watching my own son struggle in getting to the numerous projects and assignments he was given in school. In helping him figure out how to start and finish well, I developed a particular expertise in showing him how to distill an assignment down to a manageable chunk of work which can be approached step-by-step in a logical fashion.

I helped him figure out all of the underlying assumptions in an assignment, to list them, and to ensure that he had the mastery of these assumptions before jumping in. I helped him devise plans that worked for him, and coach him on practising and mastering skills such as researching, writing, editing, and polishing.

By way of modeling and then getting him to practise the steps, I watched my son go from procrastinator to organized and motivated assignment completer.

I am not a certified teacher or life coach, nor am I a tutor. I do not act as a "guide at the side" while prompting a client at every step of the way. Rather, I use my experience to teach a how-to-do plan, assist in creating an actionable manual, and then allow the client to do the work independently. Whether the client would like a check in after every step is up to each individual client - or in the case of a teenager - them and their parents. Some people want step-by-step check ins and others would rather dive in and get feedback at the end. I am happy to be of service in either scenario.

I live in Toronto with my wife and son.
How does Assignment Coaching Work?
For the time being, I will be conducting my coaching on Zoom.com. I am available for one hour sessions and you can use my service as much - or as little - as you want. In other words, you are not locked into a weekly schedule, unless you want this arrangement. I can coach you on a one-time, or as-need basis - it's all up to you.

My rate per hour is $70 plus HST (13%) for a total of $79.10.
Payment by e-transfer only.
